Microsoft is planning on providing a stripped-down version of Windows for January of 2005.
According to Microsoft’s general conusel, this stripped-down version of Windows will be released while Microsoft decides whether to appeal a European Union court order for Microsoft to carry out the European Commission sanctions.
The EU’s Court of First Instance ordered Microsoft to carry out the European Commissionsanctions immediately.
Brad Smith, Microsoft’s general counsel, said a version of Windows stripped of Windows Media Player would be available to major computer manufacturers in January and to the general public in February.
