PC Sales Expected To Remain Flat In 1H

According to sources at Taiwan motherboard makers PC sales are expected to remain flat in the first half of 2004 despite a report from IDC indicating otherwise.

PC sales will remain flat in the first half of this year, despite a recent International Data Corporation (IDC) report indicating that global PC shipments grew 16.5% on-year in the first quarter, according to sources at Taiwan motherboard makers.

Shipments of motherboards from Taiwan may drop more than 15% this quarter and the global PC market outlook is not as optimistic as the market estimated, sources at the makers said. The sources also predicted that motherboards built around Intel’s new Grantsdale chipset, which supports PCI Express, will not become mainstream until the first half of next year. The launch of Grantsdale is unlikely to give the PC market a boost this year, the sources added.
