Spammers flooding the Internet with pornographic e-mails are aparrently not abiding by a new rule that they label the mail as pornographic.
In a development that probably stuns nobody, it appears that pornographic spammers have not abided by the new law that says they must tag their subject lines as pornographic.
A report by CNET News.com cites Brightmail’s numbers that show that not only did sexually explicit spam fail to slow down after the new regulations took effect, but pornographic messages actually increased. According to the report, one company sent out 2.5 million spam messages in a 40-hour period this week, compared to 2 million in the same period last week.
The Can-Spam Act that went into effect in December required the FTC to come up with a label for unsolicited pornographic e-mail. The FTC declared that anyone sending sexually oriented material must include the warning “SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT:” in the Subject line. Violators of this regulation face fines, but none have been fined yet.
