The Korea Times is reporting that Samsung is moving its notebook manufacturing facility from Korea to China.

“The electronics giant’s relocation of notebook computer production lines to China is expected to once again trigger controversy about the hollowing out of the domestic manufacturing industry.

Major Korean electronics makers have been asserting that they would relocate domestic plants for low-end electronics goods to China but are increasingly repositioning their production facilities for high-end, high value-added information technology products in an attempt to gain an edge in price competition with foreign rivals.

The electronics heavyweight suspended domestic production of microwave ovens at home last year.”

  1. James at 3:48pm 10th May 2005 I am actually bummed by this. I specifically try to avoid buying products made in China, especially CE products. Just goes to show that competition is fierce and the bottom dollar is going to win out.

    At least Toshiba and Sony still make products in Japan right?
