Samsung LapFit Monitors Cater to Laptops

Samsung LapFit Monitors Cater to Laptops

By sitting lower to the desk, the new monitors more closely match the stature of a notebook display for a better extended desktop.

If you’re looking for a dual-display solution for your notebook computer but find Lenovo’s $3,000+ W700ds a little bit off putting, Samsung may have the next most convenient solution. The company’s LapFit monitors, introduced Monday in Korea, have been specially designed to play nice with laptops by matching size and pixel density.

Unlike traditional monitors, which usually crane at least a few inches above the desk for ergonomics, the LapFit line sits low to the desk so that it lines up horizontally with laptop displays. It also slopes back 10 to 30 degrees to match the angle, and uses UbiSync technology to connect via a ordinary USB cable, rather than a DVI or HDMI connector.

The result: a smoother extended desktop without a huge vertical gap between the displays, or the need for a laptop stand to raise the laptop to the height as an ordinary monitor.

Samsung will release both a 22-inch and 19-inch versions in Korea, with prices that translate to $215 and $165 USD, respectively.
