The serial ATA interface breathes new life into one of the oldest aspects of computing today. Samsung jumps on the SATA bandwagon with their Spinpoint hard drive.
Quote from the review at Mod The Box:
“Looking at the rear portion of the drive, we continue to see some of the PATA legacy rearing its head. There is a single row of jumpers to the left of the data and power connections still in place. Thankfully, the SATA specification does away with the need for master/slave/cable select options, making the drive much more plug and play friendly. As well, the newer SATA format does away with a male-female pin connector in exchange for a keyed contact surface similar to RAM or PCI card interfaces. Not having to worry about bent pins makes hard drive installations now well within the realm of the hardware neophyte; it’s almost physically impossible not to be able to install a drive correctly.”
