Shuttle AN50R motherboard review
Embracing the new Athlon64/nForce3-150 coupling, Shuttle brings to market a 64-bit package in the AN50R.
Quote from the review at HardOCP:
“Shuttle released a stable product in the AN50R. Early reports of nForce3-150 IDE problems did not surface during my testing and it defended well against the VIA chipset solution in the benchmark tests. The subsystems performed on par with many other manufacturers’ offerings and the overall quality and workmanship that went into the AN50R are superb from a design standpoint.
A note of caution: Even with a much better designed OEM HSF, the CPU temperatures during my time with this board were high. Having said that, the temperatures were still well within AMD specifications and the newly design HSF kept things in check while staying well within my sound tolerances for a fan-based cooling solution. Also, the new cage mounting system is a design win over previous AMD mounting mechanisms (even the four holes, in my opinion) and much easier to use than the Intel cage solution. NOTE: This board did not come with the HSF described. I’ve included this as food for thought as heat will always be a concern.”
