Sony Debuts Lightweight Vaio TX Notebook

Latest laptop from Sony weighs 2.8 pounds, is less than 1-inch thick and sports a 11.1" WXGA widescreen display.

Sony’s newest laptop entry was announced today, with its big claims to fame being what it is constructed from, its light weight and communications and entertainment capabilities. The Vaio TX is expected to debut next month starting at $2,250.   The Vaio TX comes in several colors, including charcoal, platinum and blue. It is constructed from carbon fiber, which Sony says makes it lightweight – 2.8 pounds – and durable. This particular notebook computer is less than 1-inch thin, sports an 11.1” WXGA widescreen display, gets a standard battery life of 4 to 7.5 hours and comes with a DVD+R double layer/DVD±RW drive.   Other prominent features of the Vaio TX include integrated WWAN in most models, Dolby Headphone and Virtual Speaker surround sound technologies, an iLink port, USB 2.0 port and Memory Stick Pro and Secure Digital card slots.   "Sony pioneered the exploration of ultra-light materials such as magnesium and carbon for PC casings and ultra-slim components,” said Mike Abary, vice president of VAIO product marketing for Sony Electronics in the U.S.,” as well forward-thinking technology such as integrated wireless WAN to create notebooks that are a joy to carry and add value to your life.
