TDK Developing 200 GB Blu-Ray Media

TDK might be shipping everyday Blu-ray media for recorders which haven't reached the market, but now TDK is successfully testing 200 GB Blu-ray media.

Hey, if you thought it was silly that TDK was already shipping recordable Blu-ray media when Blu-ray recorders haven’t reached the market yet, you’ll be happy to know the company has already made its market-preempting product obsolete.

According to Japanese press reports (subscription required), TDK has already is already succeeding in writing six-layer 200 GB Blu-ray media. Instead of writing bits on a layer of dye embedded in the discs, apparently the six-layer design actually stores data as microscopic bubbles in a bizmuth peroxide recording medium
