High-end custom computer builder Alienware is opening its own retail location in Miami's Dadeland Mall.
High-end, high-performance computer maker Alienwarehas announced it will be opening its first retail locationat Miami’s Dadeland Mall on December 10, 2005. Alienware describes the store as the first phase of a new campaign to establish Alienware as a national player in the computer industry and let it go head-to-head against the likes of Delland Apple.
Alienware says the store will serve as a venue where consumers can test the latest Alienware products, speak with technology experts, sign up for classes, and play the hot PC games. During the store’s grand opening December 10, the company will be giving away prizes to visitors, including Alienware Area-51system (with monitor and speakers) plus an Alienware CE-IVdigital audio player.
Alienware is a privately held computer maker noted for its colorful, high-performance, and high-concept custom systems long-favored by gamers and other computer enthusiasts, although the companyoffers a number of desktop and portable systems at a variety of price points. Alienware says their revenue is approximatly $170 million, still classifying it as a niche player against larger computermakers like Dell, HP, IBM, Gateway, and Apple. RSSIn any case, I doubt a single retail store would put the kibosh on a deal like that: after all, Best Buy, CompUSA, and other chains sell Macs, and Apple has a number of successful retail stores of its own in high-end locations worldwide. Of course, independent Apple dealers haven't necessarily been very happy about the Apple Stores....
