the iPad is nothing more than a giant ipod touch and while newer aps to come will open up it's capabilities it is an OS designed for a phone. For productivity the windows based Archos will be the winner for the first year in that area, but because we are as a culture a bunch of brand whores there the iPad will out sell the archos and even if it is not the holy grail Apple users will swear it is. We tend to defend our decissions to buy a certain brand with pointing out hyped up feature from skillfully crafted and well funded commercial propaganda. If Archos had the cash to throw at advertising we would have all run out to buy last year. I still want one and I know I can produce performance well beyond the iPad in a week with a few good tweaks.

Well, I had the chance to actually play with the Archos 9 at work on Friday and even though I had my doubts about the performance of this device, I found myself not able to put it down. I might not look like an Apple iPad this thing is sufficient enough to keep you constantly looking at the bright screen… is truly what I would like to have, … media everywhere you go…I'm buying me one! — you won't be disappointed.

Yeah, I'm guessing you've not used one. Laggy, choppy and slow at multimedia content. And I *wanted* to like it so much, too.

If you want to watch HD video, you'd better buy an Archos A5 IT as well. Or if you don't need Windows, maybe even instead.

Archos has lead the market in personal video players for years Viliv X70 looks sad,remember XP.apple equals style over substance.i own most of both archos and ipod video/phone devices and apple looks like the future.but like 1984's,apple con-troles (prevents) you from some basic control over Your device.to many too list,frustrating.Archos works for you not against you,both are shiny.

SO…… DID YOU EVER ACTUALLY TURN IT ON???????? …. granted, it was in September…. but, ummm… are you kidding me?

…. go watch any youtube video of someone trying to … well… “to watch a youtube video” with their P.O.S. Archos 9 … then watch someone with the Viliv X70 try to do the same task.

… wait….. people actually pay you to write articles? … you should probably just quit.

The Archos 9 doesn’t quite have that clean, polished Mac style and I actually think it has a little bit of a “cheap” look.
