Toshiba Keeps Global CE HDD Lead
Company announces they continue to top all HDD manufacturers in consumer electronics (CE) HDD shipments during the first quarter of 2006.
Toshiba today said that according to new research from market research firm IDC the consumer electronics giant continued to top all global HDD shipments in CE-related products. They’ve also taken the lead in mobile HDD shipments globally as well.
IDC’s data, said the Toshiba Storage Device Division, shows Toshiba having a global market share of 30 percent for all HDDs shipped into CE applications. This puts them at the top for the third quarter in a row. As for their mobile HDDs (2.5†and smaller), which are key components in popular consumer electronics, mobile computer and automotive applications, they had a 29 percent share.
“Toshiba’s technology continues to play a vital role in the digital revolution as consumers demand increasingly smaller products with exponentially larger storage capacity,” said Scott Maccabe, vice president and general manager, Toshiba Storage Device Division, in a statement. “Leveraging our leadership position in perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) and executing solidly with our 2.5-inch, 1.8-inch and 0.85-inch HDD families enables us to deliver the right combination of high-capacity storage that brings value to our customers and end users.”
