Velocity Micro Goes Core 2 Extreme
Custom PC builder Velocity Micro has added Intel's new Core 2 Extreme QX6700 and Xeon 5300 processors to its gaming and workstation systems.
Custom PC builder Velocity Micro has annnounced the availability of Intel’s new Core 2 Extreme and Xeon 5300 quad-core processors in gaming and workstation systems. The company’s ProMagix W160 workstation&dmash;and Raptor Signature Edition and Raptor DCX gaming boxes&dmash;can now be ordered with the Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor, while ProMagix W250 workstation line now sports options for Xeon 5300 processors.
“The Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 is a performance powerhouse for high-end and enthusiast users who need a machine on the cutting edge for today and tomorrow,” said Randy Copeland, Velocity Micro’s president and CEO in a statement. “Our new machines based on the CPU bring unprecedented performance gains in highly threaded multimedia applications and games, and in multitasking scenarios.”
Velocity Micro’s ProMagix W160 with a Core 2 Extreme quad-core CPU starts at just $1,595, while the Xeon 5300-based W250s start at $2,995. As you might expect, gaming rigs can be a little pricier: the Raptor DCX starts at $3,995, while the “ultimate” Raptor Signature Edition carries a $7,400 price tag—but that does include advanced thermal cooling for the 2.92 GHz processor, a one kilowatt power supply, 2 GB of RAM, two GeForce 8800GTX video cards, 4 150 GB drives, and 18× DVD burner and 48×CD-RW drive, gigabit Ethernet, Windows XP Pro, tons of ports—plus the satisfaction of knowing Velocity Micro’s president himself literally had a hand in building your very system.
Velocity MIcro’s quad-core systems should be available in early December.
