Visioneer RoadWarrior Sees Your Paper Trail

Visioneer's new RoadWarrior portable scanner helps business travelers manage receipts, business cards, and other important documents.
Digital imaging developer Visioneer has announced its new RaodWarrior mobile scanner, a tiny USB-powered document scanner intended to help business travelers and other on-the-go folks manage receipts, business cards, and other documents while they’re on the road.
“Today’s road warriors demand that every item in their bag do double or triple duty and it needs to integrate with their existing tools. We designed the RoadWarrior to handle business cards, receipts, expense reports and business documents; as well as provide search and retrieval of all files on your PC,” said John Capurso, vice president of marketing at Visioneer. “We constantly survey mobile professionals for their wish list.”
The VRoadWarrior is based on Visioneer’s existing Strobe scanner design; the unit weighs just 10 ounces and measures just 1.5 inches by 2 inches by 11.4 inches—just enough to scan letter-sized documents—and there’s no bulky power brick to drag around, since the scanner operates entirely off USB power. The RoadWarrior offers 36-bit color with a 600 by 1,200 dpi resolution, and its AutoLaunch feature begins the scanning process as soon as a document is inserted into the scanner
The RoadWarrior comes with complete versions of leading software (like Nuance OmniPage Indexer, Nuance PaperPort, and Visioneer’s own OneTouch) to manage business cards, receipts, expense reports, and everyday documents, and the RoadWarrior now ships with Google Desktop Search and Google Earth—once scanned and converted to data with optical character recognition in the background, documents become instantly searchable via Google Desktop. Scanned documents can be stored as text-searchable PDF documents, while NewSoft Presto! BizCard recognizes business card information and imports the data into contact managers such as Outlook, ACT, or PDAs.
The Visioner RoadWarrior requires Windows 2000/XP, and is priced at $199.
