Even by VoodooPC‘s entertainment and gaming-specialist standards, the new Envy m:855 is one outrageous laptop — an 8-pound notebook featuring AMD’sAthlon 64 3000+ or 3200+ processor and ATI’s Mobility Radeon 9600 graphics accelerator.
Though shipped with Microsoft’s 32-bit Windows XP Professional, the Envy m:855 is ready for 64-bit operating systems and applications down the road. A gaming-optimized 15-inch, active-matrix display, 2X DVD/16X CD recorder, and 802.11g wireless networking (as well as 56Kbps modem and 10/100Mbps Ethernet connections) are standard, and VoodooPC boasts that the 8-pound portable offers three hours of real-world battery life.
An Athlon 64 3000+ Envy configured with 512MB of low-latency memory, Hitachi’s 7,200-rpm 60GB Travelstar hard disk, and North American air insured shipping is $3,362; stepping up to an Athlon 64 3200+ and 1GB of RAM brings the price to $3,615.
