Wacom Debuts New Digital Pens

Wacom, known for pen tablet technology, announced a cordless, battery-free pen for use with the Lenovo ThinkPad X41.

Lenovo has partnered with Wacom to use its new Penabled technology with the ThinkPad X41, the first in their line of convertible Tablet PCs.  Penabled Pens are cordless, and battery free.

The ThinkPad may be used as a tablet with a digital pen, or as a traditional notebook PC.  In tablet form, digital ink is captured from the electronic pen on screen.  Designed to act like a real writing instrument, the pen provides 256 levels of pressure-sensitivity for accurate line work.  The pen also has an eraser which is just as sensitive.  The responsiveness lends itself to artists who like to sketch in natural, flowing lines.

The Wacom Penabled Pen worked by taking advantage of electromagnetic signals, which is strong enough to give the tool the power it needs.  Because of this, it may also be used to ‘hover’ over the screen, moving the cursor without actually touching the LCD.
