WinDVD HD to Support HD DVD Dolby TrueHD

InterVideo's WinDVD HD software will not only support HD DVD playback, but it will do it with Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus encoding for high definition audio.

In case you are unfamiliar with Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus, both surroundsound audio codecs were developed for high-definition programming and media. Dolby TrueHD is supposed to be 100% lossless with an 18Mbps bit rate and will likely be featured on higher-end receiverswhile Dolby Digital Plus will support a compressed codec and up to a 6Mbps data rate. Either way, the new WindDVD HD software will be able to support both codecs.   “InterVideo WinDVD has alwaysbeen the leading DVD player in the industry. Now, with Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus, WinDVD HD promises users an even better audio experience with next-generation, high-definition media,” saidSteve Ro, CEO of InterVideo. “InterVideo appreciates Dolby’s efforts in developing high-definition audio technology so together, we can deliver a better audio experience to all our users.”

“InterVideo and Dolby share a vision to provide consumers with the best in digital entertainment technology. Working with InterVideo, we believe WinDVD HD delivers on this vision,” said Greg Rodehau,Director, PC Business Segment, Dolby Laboratories. “WinDVD HD is the first HD DVD player for the PC to support both Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus, and we believe it is an excellent choice forconsumers who want to experience high-quality surround sound with their entertainment PCs.”   In related news, yesterday we told you that WinDVD installations now top 175 million, making it the most popular software for DVD movie playback on the PC.

  2. Diggbot at 9:40am 6th June 2006 Dolby TrueHD really excites me because its a 100% lossless codec, but I hope that the movie studios take advantage of it. DTS seems to only show up on about 25% of the movies out there unfortunately.
