Zone Alarm Fixes Microsoft Update Bug

The firewall company has issued a patch to solve the Microsoft update problem that left users offline.

When Microsoft issued its patch to correct the flaw in the Windows DNS component, what it didn’t realize was that the cure could kick users of the Zone Alarm products offline, leaving them unable to access e-mail or the Internet.

It affected those using Windows XP or 2000, who discovered their answer was to lower the security level to medium or to uninstall the update.

Yesterday, Check Point posted updated versions of all five of their products – ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite, Pro, Antivirus, Anti-Spyware and Basic Firewall – which solved the problem, along with instructions for any users who didn’t want to install the updates.
