This Kevlar iPhone cable is supposed to survive anything … so we blew it up

For the past few weeks, a company by the name of Zus has been generating quite a lot of buzz with its innovative new product: the Zus Kevlar cable. Unlike most charging cables, which tend to fray or break after a few months of rough use, the Zus Kevlar is designed to withstand a ridiculous amount of abuse.

As its name suggests, the cable is reinforced with a special blend of Kevlar — which supposedly that makes it five times stronger than steel. To demonstrate this, Zus actually used the cable to tow a small car — but even after seeing the impressive demo, we wanted to put it to the test and see for ourselves. How much abuse can this cable really take? Check out the video to find out.

We’re definitely in iPhone rumor season, as reports have been coming in nonstop. But the latest iPhone 15 Pro report from 9to5Mac seems to corroborate that the mute switch will indeed be replaced with an “Action Button,” and the camera bump may not be as huge as we previously thought.

These new details for the iPhone 15 Pro come from newly detailed CAD renders from MFi (Made for iPhone) accessory makers. This is important to note since accessory makers need to have such information ahead of time in order to produce products to go with the new devices beforehand.

This may be the strangest iPhone mod we’ve ever seen

Apple is rumored to be working on an iPhone with USB-C this year, but creative users have taken matters into their own hands and created their own USB-C-equipped iPhones. The latest of such mods is by an engineer who created an iPhone with both a USB-C port and a Lightning port side by side.

The iPhone mod comes from an engineer on YouTube. Using an iPhone 12 mini (though presumably, any iPhone would work), the engineer added another port to the iPhone. This means that not only is this modded iPhone capable of using the modern USB-C standard, but it can also do something as simple as listening to music through wired headphones while charging. Apple's iPhones are capable of playing music through the Lightning port, so any combination of USB-C and Lightning-wired headphones or charger would work.

Dropping an iPhone through the cracks of the floor sounds like a nightmare for anybody who owns one. David Cogen, founder of TheUnlockr.com, lived this particular nightmare when he dropped his iPhone 14 Plus and it slipped beneath the floorboards during a night out at a bar. Luckily, MagSafe came to the rescue.

Cogen shared a video on Twitter on Thursday showing the exact moment he dropped his iPhone 14 Plus through the floorboard at a local bar the night before — and everyone who attempted to help him fish it out from underneath, including the bar manager, using various tools to no avail. The next day, he returned to the bar, slipped a MagSafe Duo charger through the crack of the floorboard, and successfully fished his phone back to the surface and his hand.
