Verizon Launches Samsung Omnia II Windows Mobile Smartphone
Verizon Wireless has announced the availability of the Samsung Omnia II, a WIndows Mobile 6.5 smartphone that can tie in with corporate messaging systems and run mobile version of Microsoft’s mainstream Office applications—plus it’s got a big touch screen and entertainment features to keep users happy when they’re not being productive.
The Samsung Omnia II features a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen display, 8 GB of internal memory (plus microSD expandable storage), and a 5 megapixel video-capable digital camera. The Omnia II sports a virtual keyboard with “Swype” technology that’s supposed to enable users to input text more easily with just one finger or a stylus; the Omnia II also includes 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless networking, but lacks an integrated GPS receiver.
Apple iPhone Coming to South Korea This Week
Apple Inc’s iPhone is coming to South Korea this week, a local carrier announced Sunday, bringing the iconic communications device to one of the world’s most sophisticated mobile phone markets.
KT Corp. began accepting orders for the iPhone both online and in stores Sunday and service will start Nov. 28 as part of an official launch, said Alice Park, a spokeswoman for the country’s second-largest mobile carrier.
The announcement ends a long wait in South Korea, which has lagged behind other countries in Asia in introducing the sleek smartphone that has grabbed headlines around the world and solidified Apple’s status as a purveyor of cutting-edge consumer electronics.
Sprint’s Sanyo Incognito Touts Glow-Through QWERTY Keypad
Smartphones might be all the rage, but that doesn’t mean messaging phones don’t provide a decent solutions to many mobile communications needs. To that end, Sprint has announced it is launching the Sanyo Incognito on November 30, with full retail sales beginning December 6. The Incognito features a glossy black, streamlined form factor sports an external OLED status display, but reveals a full QWERTY keypad and a 2.6-inch QVGA display when flipped open. And forget sticker shock: the Incognito will run just $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate…so long as its purchased with a two-year service agreement.
AT&T Debuts HP Mini 110 Netbook with 3G Connectivity
The idea of buying a subsidized netbook PC with built-in 3G mobile access might seem like a nifty way to stay in touch with colleagues and friends on the go…and AT&T is hoping consumers will act on that initial feeling when it offers up an HP Mini 110 netbook PC for $199 beginning next week. AT&T is subsidizing a bit of the cost of the netbook to make it more appealing to consumers, but it’s important to bear in mind that the netbook pricing only applies with a new two-year service plan, and those run at least $35 per month.
