With the unveiling of the 12.3 megapixel D5000, Nikon has entered the consumer digital SLR/HD video category market.
The camera not only captures photos and high-def movies, but also sports a 6.8 cm Vari-angle LCD monitor. The D5000 will be available at Nikon Authorized dealers in the last week of May 2009 at an MRP of Rs. 48,950 and Rs. 55,950 (with a VR lens kit).
The D5000 is first DSLR camera with a 450 degree rotating LCD screen. Through the Vari-angle LCD monitor one can view in a normal position fitting securely within the camera back, or swung out to be rotated or tilted. The freedom of movement, along with four Live View autofocus shooting modes, allows users the opportunity to shoot from a multitude of imaginative angles
”The Nikon D5000 represents a cornerstone in Nikon’s D-SLR line, marrying simplicity and instructive features with superior technology and HD video, allowing the user’s ability and creativity to grow – with the camera”, said Hidehiko Tanaka, Managing Director, Nikon India “While its easy-to-use design will attract first-time D-SLR photographers, the D5000’s rich feature set and high performance will also appeal to more experienced enthusiasts. The D5000 is sure to inspire creativity out of the Indian consumers.”
Pros: Excellent image quality, many advanced features yet easy-to-use, included lens is light and compact, HD movie mode is fun to mess around with
Cons: Zoom range of lens is limited (18-105mm), limitations of HD movie mode (no autofocus, 5 minute limit for HD)
