Cars, more cars, and Marshawn Lynch: What could go wrong?

If you’re a car lover, we’re about to put a big dent in your productivity. We’ve gathered up a bunch of our favorites across several categories to pick this year’s best. Among the contenders? Everything from every day drivers like the new Honda Civic to dream machine exotica like the Lamborghini Huracan. In between? We smoked the tires on the new Camaro and laughed at gas stations with the Audi A3 E-tron.

Oh, and along for the ride? Seattle Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch, who knows a thing or two about cars… and kept our video editors fingers on the bleep button. Anyway, check out the story and videos and see if you agree with our picks, and if you don’t, well, we’ve got the comments section all swept out and cleaned up for your thoughts.

Speaking of cars, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is looking to unite his electric car and solar power franchises into one company – called Tesla when it’s all said and done – for $3 billion in stock. Musk is the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and the cofounder of Solar City, which is run by his cousin, so really, this is family business. However, business at Solar City has been in a slump lately, and according to Musk, folding it into Tesla makes perfect sense.

Musk has said before that Tesla and Solar City are essentially related: You buy a Tesla electric car and charge it up at home using Solar City solar panels. Having one company instead of two will just streamline the process, he says. Investors seem split on the idea, with Tesla stock going down and Solar City stock going up. It seems like a simple deal since Musk essentially runs the show at both companies, but of course, it isn’t. Stay tuned to see if the deal goes down.

Virtual reality systems continue to fly off shelves despite there being somewhat of a lack of content to enjoy with it. And, if you want to create your own VR content, so far it hasn’t been too easy. But Samsung is hoping to change that with their Gear 360 camera… providing you can find one. No, it’s not camouflaged, it’s just tough to find one for sale. The ball-shaped camera features two fish-eye lenses and multiple modes for stills and video. It’s going to cost $350 when it debuts, which should be… right about now.

Problem is, the first cameras will be made available only to VidCon attendees only, and then… well, who knows. Hopefully, it will eventually end up on Amazon, and down the road, let’s face it, this tech is going to be built into your phone. Maybe we’ll just wait until then.

On this episode of Work/Life, Ciara Pressler, author of Pregame and Game Plan, talks with Greg Nibler about how to remain focused during the constant distractions, chaos, and confusion of the current climate, whether it’s pandemic fatigue, protests, wildfires, the election, or any number of other things out of our control that can take our attention or bog us down.

“There’s a lot going on,” Pressler said, “so how do we focus when there’s so much going on?” The first step of gaining focus, she says, is to acknowledge what’s going on -- not just with the constant barrage of news, but with yourself. “You might not be feeling like working at 100%, and that’s ok!” she says.
