This certainly isn’t the first time developer Level-5 has brought the whimsical Professor Layton to the West, yet it is the first time we’ll see the franchise mashed with Capcom’s Ace Attorney series in the United States. The puzzle game, entitled Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, will consist of two parts encapsulating the two characters, both of which are attempting to absolve a young woman in Labrynthia who has been accused of being a witch. As Professor Layton, you’ll work to resolve a series of jigsaw-like puzzles. As Phoenix Wright, you’ll cross examine witness testimonies and evidence within the courtroom.
If the gameplay trailer shown at E3 2015 is any indication of what to expect, than it looks like the title will make the best of both worlds and then some. Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is scheduled for release on the Nintendo 3DS in late 2014, with a Shu Takumi-helmed DLC following soon afterward.
