E3 2013: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

We’re 90 percent sure that Konami made up the word “revengeance,” but it does seem appropriate considering that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance does away with the sneaking and takes on more of a Bayonetta play style — a very un-Metal Gear move. For a quick reference, Urban Dictionary defines revengeance as “the act of gaining revenge at a rate of at least 2.54 times greater to that of standard revenge and 1.61 that of standard vengeance.” Whatever that means…

The Bayonetta reference isn’t without merit, since Platinum Games is behind the new game, and they made Bayonetta and the upcoming Anarchy Reigns. MGR focuses on the cybernetic ninja Raiden instead series stalwart, Solid Snake. One of the new features is “Blade Mode,” a bullet-time mode of sorts, that lets Raiden slice and dice enemies in rapid succession. Even outside of Blade Mode though, the game looks to control in a similar fashion to Bayonetta with simple slashing attacks and over-the-top stylish kills.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and its off-brand of Metal Gear fighting is slated for an early 2013 release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
