The latest trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End–released by Sony at their E3 press conference on June 9–opens on adventurer and series protagonist Nathan Drake lying face down in the sand, water ebbing in and out of frame. He doesn’t look like the Nathan Drake we’re used to: he looks older, more worn out and battered. As he gets up, checks his pistol’s ammo, and trudges into the nighttime jungle, we hear a voice-over of Drake trying to convince his friend Sully to help him “one last time.” Drake disappears into the forest and the shot pans to a cluster of cages dangling from poles. Inside those cages are skeletons.
According to Sony, Uncharted 4 is a “much more personal” story, as Drake sets out on a “globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure,” and will be released sometime in 2015.
