Nintendo officially announced Yoshi’s Wooly World on their E3 stage. The exploration game was previously titled Yarn Yoshi, and is considered a “spiritual successor” to Nintendo’s 2010 title, Kirby’s Epic Yarn.
The trailer’s gameplay footage borrows from Nintendo’s characteristic platform-game style of yore. The levels feel familiar, but every feature is now made of yarn. Unlike Mario-inspired games, Yoshi Wooly World has omitted the timer and included new ways to interact with Nintendo’s innovative yarn world. The gameplay trailer reveals enemies constructed from fabric that, when defeated, turn into yarn balls that follow Yoshi. There are also ways access new parts of the map by unraveling walls-made-from-yarn.
Two-player gameplay also sports some innovative features. For instance, you’ll be able to turn a teammate into a ball, and fire them to previously unreachable parts of the map. Yoshi’s Wooly World will be available for Wii U and is scheduled to be released in 2015.
