The news aggregators mentioned in this post are available only on tablets and smartphones. To discover news on a laptop or desktop, try Trapit. Like Zite (and unlike Pulse and Flipboard), Trapit allows you to choose topics to follow, then learns from your feedback on the items it recommends. But while Zite offers only a limited selection of topics to follow, Trapit allows following any topic. Trapit also trawls many more sources than Zite, and does just as good of a job excluding spam and crappy content.

Riversip is a content curator worth watching as well. Yes, I’m one of its co-creators, and still – I think it deserves its spot, as it delivers a unique value – an efficient news consumption at ease.

I'm a little worried about the conflict of interests with Pando Daily. They are backed by the same VC's whos start-ups PandoDaily will be writing about. Does anyone else see an issue with that?

As for curators, I'm a huge fan of Pulse personally. I like the look of Flipboard, but the company fills it with content from the Valley. I don't care about Mashable, Tech Crunch, Giga OM etc. I want NY Times, Cnet, Wired and the MAJOR outlets, not the copy-cats.

I would suggest considering Frrole (http://frrole.com/) for that list. Just last week, TheNextWeb called Frrole “an interesting alternative to Twitter trending topics, with far greater context and depth” (Link: http://thenextweb.com/twitter/2012/01/22/frrole-is-your-guide-to-finding-whats-hot-on-twitter-in-your-city/)

Frrole is an effort to democratize information discovery, looking beyond the personal graph. Given that Frrole is just 2 months old, it should in all probability go on to be one of the startups to watch in this space.

However, let me add that I am the co-creator of Frrole, so you must take my statement with a pinch of skepticism:)
