Akimbo Offers Up HD, Free MLB Content

Video on demand provider announces partnerships with MLB and HDNet to bring new content to its subscribers.

Akimbo Systems today made two announcements related to content offerings for their subscribers. One involves high definition programming and the other is focused on a partnership with Major League Baseball.

With regards to high definition programming, said Akimbo, users of the Akimbo Service for Windows XP Media Center Edition will be able to download select titles from the library of HDNet, a 24-hour all high definition network co-founded by Mark Cuban, for viewing on on subscribers’ monitors or high definition televisions.

“Consumers are adopting HDTV at a rapid pace. Most of them immediately seek out new sources of great hi-def content,” said Joshua Goldman, Akimbo’s CEO, in a statement. “With the addition of HDNet’s content, Akimbo can offer a new and innovative way to meet this demand.”

As for the MLB related announcement, Akimbo said they, in conjunction with MLB Advanced Media, will offer a limited-time special offer to the Akimbo Service: an entire season of baseball on-demand for free to the first 5,000 new and existing Akimbo subscribers. Between April and October, Akimbo users will receive MLB Advanced Media’s programming – next-day condensed games, daily highlights and an archive of full-length classic games – on-demand.
