AOL Delivers New VoIP Enhancement
AIM Phoneline, a new feature of the beta AIM Triton service, gives AOL users a dedicated, free local number and voicemail tied to their AIM screen name.
AOL yesterday launched a new VoIP communications enhancement to their AIM service which gives users a free, local number and voicemail. The new AIM Phoneline offering is available as an updated version of the AIM Triton service now in beta testing.
AIM Phoneline, said AOL, provides a dedicated local phone number for each AIM screen name. The offering, which integrates with the AIM service and buddy list feature, offers a variety of functionality to users for free, including always-on voicemail delivered to the user’s AIM Mail inbox; mobile alerts via cell phone to notify users whenever they have new voicemail; unlimited inbound calling from friends on landlines, mobile phones and other PCs; and, when signed in to the AIM service, screening incoming calls with Caller ID, answering calls and talking as long as they’d like.
AOL also mentioned they would have available a pay for version of the AIM Phoneline service which offers all of the basic features plus enhanced 911 service and call management tools; more complete caller ID; and single click calls to contacts.
