Apple has joined with BMW to develop an audio adapter that would allow BMWs to connect iPods to the BMW's audio system.
The device will reportedly allow users to control their iPod or iPod mini through controls mounted on the steering wheel (similar to cruise control) or an auxiliary headset. The adapter also allowsplaylist or song track viewing, and lets users charge their iPod.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs alluded to the upcoming adapter during his iTunes Music Store keynote in London yesterday saying “Later this year we are hoping to make some announcements for in-car listening”while addressing customer desires to have the iPod work better in the car. While making this statement, Jobs reportedly displayed an image on of the interior of a BMW automobile, with the BMW logodigitally removed.
Fallon Worldwide, BMW’s advertising agency, is currently completing the development of a campaign entitled ‘iPod Your BMW.’ A two page advertisment was just completed, and the website iPodYourBMW.comhas already been registered, but is not currently live.
