Audio-Technica's AT-LP120 USB turntable appeals to pros with a direct drive motor, forward and reverse back-cueing, speed adjustment, phono pre-amp...and a USB connector.
Audio gear maker Audio-Technica has introduced its new top-of-the-line AT-LP120-USB Direct-Drive Professional Turntable, aiming at DJs, music pros, and audiophiles with a top-flight feature set, plus both analog and USB connectivity for plugging into a tube amp old-school, or transferring vinyl music to digital formats.
The AT-LP120-USB features a direct drive motor with both forward and reverse back-cueing—it might add a little rumble, but DJs will love it. The turntable supports 33 1/3, 45, and 78 rpm speeds (you do have old ceramic 78s, admit it) and features speed adjustment for precision matching. The AT-LP120-USB’s platter is heavy aluminum with a skip mat, adjustable tracking force, and adjustable vertical tracking angle (VTA) for optimizing performance. The unit ships with a Dual Magnet stereo cartridge, but of course folks can swap in a variety of photo cartridges that match their music preferences. And, of course, the turntable rolls in a photo pre-amp to get around that pesky RIAA equalization curve—you know, back from when the RIAA actually developed standards instead of suing people.
The AT-LP120-USB also features USB output, and ships with Audacity to record digital audio files off vinyl—yes, Audacity is available for free, but does include good-quality equalization and noise removal features.
The AT-LP120-USB will be available this month for a suggested retail price of $429.
