Bluetooth Shipments Pick up Steam

According to research firm In-Stat, Bluetooth shipments more than doubled in 2005, the fourth consecutive year of doing so.

This year shipment of Bluetooth products are forecasted to be around 316 million units and are expected to rise to 866 shipped units by 2009 if shipments continue at their current pace saysIn-Stat.
"Mobile phones are at the core of Bluetooth’s popularity," said Brian O’Rourke, In-Stat analyst. "They are in turn helping Bluetooth penetrate into other products, including notebookPCs, mono and stereo headsets, automobiles, and portable digital music players."
Of course cell phones are helping the cause, but what may also be helping is the inclusion of Bluetooth capabilities in cordless headphones and ear buds. Portable devices in general are adopting theBluetooth standard far more than competing technologies such as Wireless USB, Wireless 1394 and WiFi.
