Ceiva Adds Wireless to Digital Frames

The new Ceiva Wireless Adapter uses 802.11 technology to connect a Ceiva 3 digital photo frame to the Internet to download photos.

Ceiva, a maker of digital picture frames, announced today a new wireless connectivity option for its Internet enabled digital photo displays. The new Ceiva Wireless Adapter is priced at $34.95 and should be available now.

The Ceiva Wireless Adapter, said the company, connects the Ceiva 3 Digital Photo Receiver to a wireless home network so one can retrieve digital photos from the associated online service without needing to have a port for an Internet connection nearby. It allows multiple connections per day, supports 802.11g and 802.11b networks, and supports both WEP and WPA wireless encryption.

“Offering the only line of connected digital frames, we have the unique opportunity to provide customers with multiple connectivity methods that will best complement their home and office environments,” states Dean Schiller, CEO of Ceiva Logic Inc, in a statement. “With more and more U.S. homes going wireless, developing Ceiva Wireless was a logical progression to helping families connect more easily through the display and sharing of their digital photos.”

  1. Liz at 9:47pm 11th June 2006 I agree wholeheartedly with Josh that having to then pay a monthly fee makes the system less desirable. For my 88 year old mother, it is a lot easier than learning to use her computer. I am glad to see the wireless adapter and plan to try that. Now if they would come out with some type of power system that makes the system completely wireless (batteries??) it would be close to being a great idea.
  2. Tim Stevens at 3:34pm 1st June 2006 The initial cost is cheap ($130 for a new unit, $99 for a refurbished, with the adapter costing $30.) However, you have to pay a subscription fee to be able to use it. How lame is that? That's the nail in the coffin for me. If I plop money down for a LCD picture display, I dont want to have to pay a service charge every month to be able to use it.
