CES 2006 Profile: Sonos

Wireless home music network developer gets ready to deliver a new player to be attached to amplified audio devices.

Sonos, a developer of wireless multi-room music systems for the home, unveiled a new wireless player device at CES 2006 to be attached to audio components for networked sharing. The ZonePlayer ZP80 is expected to price at $349 when it ships this spring.

The ZonePlayer ZP80 connects to any amplified audio device via its analog or digital outputs, bringing that device into a wireless, multi-room digital music system. Users of the wireless Sonos Controller can then control the music being played remotely through the ZP80 by browsing the remote’s control screen and the media files listed there within. The ZP80 includes auto-sensing line-in connectors which can digitally encode any line-in source. This will allow external music sources, such as an iPod, to be listened to through the Sonos music network.
