CinemaNow Nets Warner Brothers

Online movie service announces they've added Warner Brothers pictures and television shows to their stable of pay for download offerings.

Online movie download service CinemaNow, fresh off of their announcement yesterday about making Disney films available online the same day they’re released on DVD, was back at it again today as they unveiled a licensing agreement with Warner Brothers to offer select television shows and movies.

As part of this new agreement, said CinemaNow, pictures and television shows will be made available on a download-to-own basis, with all content copy protected by Microsoft’s digital rights management software. Television shows initially available, in either individual episodes or entire seasons, include Babylon5 and Dukes of Hazard, while motion pictures include Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Matrix, and2001: A Space Odyssey. Movies available the same day as their DVD release will include Firewall on June 6th and 16 Blocks on June 13th.

This also marks the first availability of Warner Bros. television content on a download-to-own basis in the United States.

“We’re very excited to add Warner Bros.’ content to our electronic-sell-through offering and to be the first to make Warner Bros. Television’s product available on the open Internet for purchase,” said Bruce Eisen, President of CinemaNow, in a statement. “We believe that Warner’s large library of outstanding motion pictures and television shows will be very attractive to our customers.”
