D-Link announced a new firmware upgrade for their Xtreme G products,that provides consumers with new levels of standardization with all standard-based 802.11g and 11b networks.
The update will be featuring advanced compatibility and interoperability by employing a dynamic sensing mode to embrace all wireless technologies from a compatibility standpoint while enhancingnetwork performance of up to 45% in standard G mode and up to 144% in Super G mode. This new free firmware upgrade gives Xtreme G products the added ability to sniff out nearby networks operating onthe same channel, then automatically engage or disengage performance features to maximize network performance and interoperability. D-Link Xtreme G products are completely backward compatible withthe existing installed base of 802.11g and 802.11b products and include additional security options to further protect computers and users on the network. The free Xtreme G upgrade will be availableas a downloadable upgrade from D-Link later this month.

Working closely with chipmaker Atheros to release the latest firmware, D-Link delivers the best possible performance of the Xtreme G 108Mbps networking products while continuing to ensure no-risk compatibility and unsurpassed compliance to standards-based products. With this new firmware, when channel bonding is engaged, the Xtreme G product scans every 60 seconds for any other active wireless network within its range. The product automatically switches to a single channel whenever it detects another active wireless network within its range. If no other network is active, the Xtreme G products automatically engage channel bonding in order to provide the maximum available throughput.
Users will experience a 45%* performance enhancement in standard G mode and will experience an unparalleled 144%* performance enhancement when all Super G features, including channel bonding, are turned on.
D-Link Xtreme G users also continue to have the option to enhance throughput without using channel bonding, remaining compatible with all standard 802.11g and 802.11b networks, or can choose to use IEEE compliant 802.11g-only mode.
The D-Link Xtreme G products enhance throughput by using technologies such as Channel Bonding, Packet Bursting, FastFrames and hardware compression and encryption while remaining completely compatible with the 802.11g standard. They also feature robust security to protect the wireless network from intruders, complying with the latest wireless networking security protocols, including WEP encryption and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) support for both 802.1x and WPA-PSK.
D-Link’s Xtreme G wireless networking solution includes the Xtreme G DI-624 Wireless Router with 4-port switch, the Xtreme G DWL-G650 Wireless CardBus Adapter, Xtreme G DWL-G520 Wireless PCI Adapter, the DWL-G810 Wireless to Ethernet Bridge and the Xtreme G DWL-2000AP Wireless Access Point.
