Sony Brings the Bling with Swarovski Photoframe

Gunnar Optiks Glasses

Gunnar claims its special lenses can relieve cubicle warriors of tech-induced eyestrain.

For the blue collar workforce, a hard day of work usually means blistered feet, a sore back, and calloused hands. For those of us on the white-collar side of things, it usually means a pounding headache after staring at mind-numbing spreadsheets, e-mails and Web sites for 12 hours straight.

Desk jockeys might not have comfortable boots, support belts or gloves to relieve their fatigue, but Gunnar Optiks claims its new glasses can take the ocular burn out of a long day at the ‘cube.

The premise: Your eyes are bombarded by high-energy blue and green light from the fluorescent tubes at your office, as well as the backlights on TVs, monitors, and cell phone screens. Gunnar says its iONik lens tint reduces those wavelengths, and together with a special lens material, coating and geometry, reduces eyestrain.

Anecdotal reports on the Web range from complete indifference and skepticism to nigh-miraculous improvements in eyestrain, so you’ll have to decide for yourself whether you need them. For our part, we definitely noticed increased contrast on monitors, but didn’t suffer from much eyestrain to begin with to notice any relief.

Gunnar Optiks come in a slew of different styles, which range between $100 and $200. They can even be made in different prescriptions, in case you’re already wearing glasses at the computer. More information, including a complete view of different models, can be found at the company’s Web site.
