Computer giants part ways over iPod after HP ends relationship, reports the Wall Street Journal.

The Wall Street Journal (paid registration required) is reporting that Hewlett Packard and Apple have ceased their relationship in which iPods are sold under the HP label. This change in affairs will phase out sales of the popular digital audio player though all of HP’s retail channels.

An Apple spokeswoman confirmed for the WSJ that the deal had been terminated as it no longer fit with HP’s “current digital media strategy.” People familiar with the deal told the newspaper that HP “never profited heavily” from their own iPod version sales.
