iRiver is set to launch a new digital media player that will play audio files and allow users to view and store digital images on its 2-inch color LCD.
According to a story at The Register, iRiver’s new H300 series of media players will feature a 20GB and a 40GB hard drive-based model.
Content is displayed on the device’s 2-inch color LCD and can be accessed using PDA-style navigator controls.
The article says that the H300′s will play Ogg Vorbis, MP3 and WMA audio formats, feature an onboard FM tuner, support voice recording and be able to transfer photos directly from digital cameras. A built-in USB port will allow the device to act as a USB host for cameras, allowing them to transfer directly to the media player for storage and playback. It will display JPEG and BMP images, and will also be able to render text files on the LCD.
The Register says that the 20GB H320 measures 10.3 x 6.2 x 2.2cm with the 40GB H340 being slightly thicker at 2.5cm. The two models weigh 183g and 203g, respectively.
The H300 will ship with Sennheiser MX400 earphones and a rechargeable Lithium Polymer battery which provides up to 16 hours’ playback, iRiver claims.
According to the report, the H320 and H340 go on sale in Japan mid-June for ¥47,800 ($431/£235) and ¥59,800 ($540/£294), respectively. No word yet on UK and US availability
