January UK Test For Project Kangaroo

January UK Test For Project Kangaroo

Project Kangaroo, a joint video-on-demand venture by major UK broadcasters, is set to go beta in January.

The BBC, ITV and Channel 4 are probably the three biggest broadcasters in the UK. Together they’ve been developing Project Kangaroo, a video-on-demand service to offer more than 10,000 hours of programming and which "will work independently as an aggregator of both joint venture partners and third-party content."

Now it’s set to go beta in closed testing in January, with the uploading of programming – alpha mode – happening in December, according to the Guardian. However, the venture has yet to be approved by the Competition Commission, which is set to publish provisional findings this month and offer a final verdict in late January.

Assuming it’s given a green light, Project Kangaroo will still need final board approval from partners. If it receives that, then the service should be live by the middle of next year.
