Logitech Intros Pure-Fi iPod Speakers

Logitech has announced two iPod speaker systems, the Pure-Fi Dream with an alarm and radio, and the Pure-Fi Anywhere portable system with a 10-hour rechargeable battery.

Accessory and peripheral maker Logitech has rolled out a pair of new iPod speaker systems designed to help owners of Apple’s popular iPod portable media players push their music ito real air. Logitech’s Pure-Fi Dream is aimed at folks looking to replace their dull old alarm clock, while the Pure-Fi Anywhere is designed to let users take their speaker system with them whereever they go.

The Pure-Fi Dream offers the usual run of alarm-clock features, including an AM/FM radio (6 AM presets, 12 FM presets), dual alarms, a remote control, and a built-in backup battery so the unit keeps time (and settings!) through power outages. The system’s speakers offer 3-inch woofers with 0.75-inch tweeters to provide quality sound, and Logitech’s own StereoXL technology helps create a sense of a wider soundstage. But the Pure-Fi Dream does have some unique features, including motion- and light-sensing technology. The blacklit control buttons automatically illuminate when users wave their hand over the top of the speaker—and users can trigger a snooze function just by waving rather than (repeatedly, angrily) striking the unit—a handy feature if you aren’t keen on pummeling your iPod. What’s more, light sensors automatically adjust the output of the system’s display in response to ambient light: the display brightens during the day to keep it visible, but dims at night so the system doesn’t turn itself into a nightl ight. The Pure-Fi Dream should land at U.s. retailers in November, with a suggested price of $249.99.

Building on the success of its mm50 portable speakers, Logitech’s Pure-Fi Anywhere is designed to be a portable speaker system that won’t let people down, offering a rechargeable battery that offers up to 10 hours of play time and a four-stage battery life meter that lets users know when the speakers need charging. The Pure-Fi Anywhere sports dual 3-inch drivers paired with 2-inch high-excursion drivers and comes with a protective travel case, a power adapter, and a revamped remote. The system will happily recharge an iPod while docked, and sports rubberized edges and a cord management system to to help out users on the go—and the Pure-Fi Anywhere weighs just 1.6 pounds. Logitech expects the Pure-Fi Anywhere to be available in the U.S. and Europe in September at a suggested price of $149.99.
