Microsoft Discontinuing WiFi Products

Microsoft Corp. will sell through its line of broadband wireless access products, after which the technology will be phased out.

Products like the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Kit will still be sold and supported, a Microsoft representative said, and Microsoft will continue to honor its warranties. But stocks of the entire 802.11g wireless product line, consisting of a basestation, notebook adapter, PCI card, and USB adapter will not be replaced once they leave store shelves, she said.

Microsoft, which has heavily invested in personal input technology like mice and keyboards, “essentially felt they kind of achieved what they needed to,” the Microsoft representative said. The company set out to “raise the bar on the wireless experience,” she said.
