Microsoft iPod Appeal Rejected By Apple

Microsoft attempts to gain access to the iPod for its forthcoming music store have been rejected by Apple. Why are we not surprised?

Rolling Stone is reporting that Microsofts store will launch here in the US around the beginning of September and will be compatible with just about every portable player except the Apple iPod.

“Some sources speculate that Microsoft will bundle its new music store with future versions of Windows, much like Apple bundles iTunes with its operating system. Ted Cohen, EMI Worldwide’s senior vice president of digital development and distribution, has seen Microsoft’s site and describes it as “a better mousetrap” because it integrates the company’s search and instant-messaging technologies. “I think it will be a serious competitor quickly,” he says.”

One rumor that is floating around the web says that Microsoft will carry the Beatles catalog, which would be the first music service to do so. This has not been confirmed however.
