Netgear today announced the launch of the industry’s first dual-band 802.11a+g VPN firewall solution, the NETGEAR ProSafe Dual-Band Wireless VPN firewall (FWAG114).
With the ability to simultaneously support 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g WLAN standards, the FWAG114 delivers wireless networking flexibility, while implementing Virtual Private Networking (VPN)technology and a true firewall to provide business-class network security.
The FWAG114 is a networking solution that combines the flexibility of Ethernet and wireless connectivity through a four-port switch with NAT routing and a dual-band, tri-mode 802.11a+g wireless access point. Equipped with two built-in 802.11a+g-based antennas designed to provide powerful tri-mode wireless signal reception, the FWAG114′s security feature set includes a Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall with routing functionality and support for two 3DES-encrypted Virtual Private Network (VPN) tunnels using digital certificates for Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) encryption key exchanges.
In addition to its ability to support up to 253 users, with up to 96 on the wireless LAN, the FWAG114 includes a set of enterprise-class security features including: SPI firewall to prevent Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks, Intrusion Detection System (IDS) including logging, reporting and e-mail alerts, Web URL content filtering, and prevent replay attack. Furthermore, the FWAG114 supports IPSec-based 56-bit (DES) or 168-bit (3DES) encryption algorithms, remote access VPN (client-to-site), site-to-site VPN, and IPSec, PPTP and LT2P NAT transversal (VPN pass-through) functionality. The ProSafe Firewall ships complete with an eight-seat anti-virus, privacy protection PC software, and is Wi-Fi certified, providing a complete solution for growing businesses.
The FWAG114 utilizes NETGEAR’s Smart Wizard and Install Assistant applications to auto detect basic parameter settings and ease the installation process. Other features include: DHCP server, PPPoE login client support, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) remote administration capability, port range forwarding, Exposed Host (DMZ), MAC address cloning/spoofing, NTP support, WAN DHCP client, diagnostic tools, and port/service blocking.
Backed by a three-year warranty and 24/7 technical support, NETGEAR’s ProSafe Dual-Band Wireless VPN Firewall (FWAG114) is compatible with Windows, UNIX, Macintosh, and Linux O/S, and will be available in June 2003, via value added resellers, direct marketers and e-commerce sites, at a list price of $459.
