New MTV Networks Programming on iTunes

MTV Networks shows like South Park have been on iTunes a while; now new shows from Nick at Night, TV Land, Spike TV, The N, and flagship MTV are joining the party.

Apple Computer and MTV Networks (a unit of Viacom) have inked a deal to make a wide range MTV Networks video content available for sale at Apple’s iTunes Music Store. Some MTV Networks programming debuted on iTunes in early 2006 (with South Park alone selling more than 1 million episodes); the companies now look to deepen the relationship and offer a deeper body o content which crosses more genre and demographic boundaries.

“MTV Networks’ programming has been a hit with customers since launching on iTunes earlier this year,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes. “iTunes is the world’s most popular online video store with over 35 million videos sold, and we continue to expand the catalog of great television content now with over 150 network and cable programs available.”

To spotlight the content, the two hour pilot of Spike TV’s Blade: The Series is available for free download through July 11. Blade: The Series expands on the vampire-hunter film trilogy and is Spike TV’s first original series.

Also on tap: TV Land’s Sit Down Comedy with David Steinberg; Nick at Nite’s animated Fatherhood and hidden camera series Hi-Jinks; Logo’s drama Noah’s Arc and reality/comedy series U.S. of ANT; MTV’s Viva La Bam; and The N’s surfing show Beyond the Break.

TV episodes are on sale for $1.99 each and, of course, require Apple’s iTunes software (available for Mac and Windows).
