Philips GoGear is Back in Black

The new Philips GoGear HDD1630 and HDD6330 jukeboxes look like the Cadillac of MP3 players and comes in 6GB and 30GB versions.

Arguably one of the better players on the market, the new Philips GoGear HDD1630 and HDD6330 hope to carve out a niche of their own – that is if Philips can get the software right this time. The HDD1630 features 6 GB of storage for up to 3,000 songs, 1,600 pictures; while the HDD6330 features storage capacity of 30 GB to hold up to 15,000 songs or 8,400 pictures.

Both players feature backlit sensory touchpads and Philips’ acclaimed SuperScroll system for speedy and precise navigation through a music collection. Listeners can just tap or drag their finger along the touch-sensitive strip to maneuver through their library of music and photos.

“Philips GoGear HDD1630 and HDD6330 are designed around the needs of the consumer on the go,” said Des Power, senior vice president of marketing and sales, Philips Consumer Electronics, North America. “These players feature a sleek, compact design, enabling busy consumers to carry their tunes with them wherever they go and control their music with the slightest touch. Available in time for the holiday gift giving season, the GoGear Jukeboxes are an ideal gift packed with added features such as picture viewing to enhance the entertainment experience.”

The two players also feature an FM tuner, PlaysForSure compatibility and 15 to 18 hours of battery life. The GoGear HDD6330 and HDD1630 will be available in October 2005 and will have a suggested retail price of $299 and $199.

  4. fungku at 2:49pm 1st September 2005 OMG this thing looks awesome. And it's playsforsure so you dont have to use some crappy proprietary software package.

    Decent price too.
  5. Ian Bell and Dan Gaul at 12:01pm 1st September 2005 You know, Philips has some excellent design ideas for their MP3 players, its sad to see the iPod get all the attention. If Philips would back their products with larger marketing budgets, they might actually win with this.
