Philips today announced a complete semiconductor solution for low-power IEEE 802.11b Wireless LAN connectivity.
The manufacturer claims will change the way people use handsets, smartphones, handhelds, Voice over IP handsets and other portable infotainment devices. According to Philips, its two-chip solution offers the lowest standby power consumption and smallest form factor available today at respectively 3 milliwatts (mW) and 300 square mm.
The solution is expected to sample in the fourth quarter of 2003 with general availability planned in the first quarter of 2004. Philips did not comment on whether any customers had already signed up for use of the new chipset.
