Polaroid Portable DVD Batteries Recalled

The voluntary recall, issued in conjunction with Petters Consumer Brands, impacts around 165,000 Polaroid portable DVD players amongst reports of overheating and cases melting.

Another day, another rechargeable battery recall. This time around, the voluntary recall issued by the CPSC involves Petters Consumer Brands and their Polaroid-branded portable DVD players.

The recall, which impacts approximately 165,000 units, focuses on external battery packs used with the PDV-0800 and PDV-0700 Polaroid-brand portable DVD players. Petters Consumer Brands has received eight reports of batteries overheating, melting the plastic case, or units smoking during the recharging process. No injuries have been reported.

The players with batteries in question (determined by serial number) were sold at various stores nationwide from May 2003 through March 2004 and are silver in color. Consumers are requested to stop using the battery packs and should contact Petters Consumer Brands toll- free at (866) 866-6292 anytime to arrange for a replacement battery pack.
