SanDisk’s Sansa Clip+ Media Music Player Sports microSD Slot

SanDisk's new Clip+ music players look to solve the problem of limited onboard storage by offering a microSD slot so users can easily swap out tunes.

SanDisk is looking to re-assert itself in the holiday gift-giving market for portable music players with the updated Sansa Clip+ portable media player, which looks to solve the problem of limited on-board storage and needing to sideload from a computer to swap out tunes by adding a microSD slot. Now users can swap music libraries on the fly with the same aplomb they’d use popping new media into a digital camera…and, conveniently, the microSD slot also supports SanDisk’s slotMusic and slotRadio cards, pre-loaded with music.

"We made a great product—the Sansa Clip—even better," said SanDisk marketing VP Eric Bone, in a statement. "This small player packs big features, including a new microSD memory card slot that gives music lovers the ability to listen to thousands of additional songs in seconds."

The Clip+ players will come with 2, 4, or 8 GB of onboard memory in addition to the microSD storage, and feature a 1-inch OLED display for managing playlists and features, a wearable clip for hands-free use, a built-in voice-recorder, an FM tuner with 40 station presets, and support for a wide range of audio formats, including MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, and Audible.

The Clip+ is available now from the company’s Web site, and should be available September 13 from selected U.S. retailers, and land in Canada and Europe in time for the holiday season. Suggested U.S. pricing on the Clip+ is $39.99 for the 2 GB version, with the 4 and 8 GB versions going for $49.99 and $69.99, respectively. All capacities are available in black; the 2 and 4 GB editions are also available in red and blue, respectively.
