Sondigo Unveils Wireless Media Bridge

The new Sondigo Sirocco Wireless Audio Bridge makes use of special technology which reportedly allows it to stream all types of PC audio content, including protected, wirelessly.

Sondigo, the new consumer hardware brand of British Columbia based Networking Limited (LENL), earlier this week announced a new wireless media bridge designed to bring audio streaming over 802.11 networks. The new Sirocco Wireless Audio Bridge is priced at $139.99 and available now.

The Sondigo Sirocco Wireless Audio Bridge, said the company, uses a consumer’s existing 802.11g wireless network infrastructure to deliver reportedly 100 percent of all PC audio formats and player applications – including Apple iTunes (protected content), Realnetworks’ Rhapsody, Yahoo! Music Engine, Windows Media Player (with DRM), AOL music, Flash and Web based players and more – via special patented audio driver technology to home theater and PC speaker systems. The Sirocco includes support for Dolby Digital 5.1-channel audio via an S/PDIF optical digital audio output as well as 5.1 channel analog audio outputs for compatibility with PC speaker systems.

“The Sondigo Sirocco is the most complete and compatible wireless home audio product on the market,” said Len Layton, LENL’s president and founder, in a statement. “Powered by C-Media Wi-Sonic technology and Dolby Digital Live real-time 5.1 channel surround sound, the Sondigo Sirocco will stream any audio from your PC to anywhere in your home wirelessly.”

Here is my review. Unfortunately it only supports Windows XP and 2000.
  2. Tim Stevens at 10:49pm 26th June 2006 I would think it does support linux since you just plug your audio into it and then access it via a webpage. It's an external device, not an internal one, and controlled by a web page I think (correct me if i'm wrong!)

  4. James at 1:56pm 5th June 2006 I bought one of these to replace my Netgear MP101 'Network Media Player', (which turned out to be an unmitigated disaster of a product). So far the Sirocco has worked flawlessly. Basically it's a wireless sound card, so your machine just sends all your PC Audio to it, when you're connected. So I have installed the software on all the computers in my house, and I have fairly universal control over my stereo system now. I really like the extra effects this device is capable of too. No problems with network traffic though I wonder how it would perform if things got busy on the wireless network...

  6. Ian Bell and Dan Gaul at 5:11pm 18th May 2006 I actually just got one of these for review and it looks interesting. I am impressed that is supports protected media from iTunes, Rhapsody, and Microsoft. I am willing to bet they have legal trouble if this really takes off.
